How to build a table setting that works: start with one neutral base — plain stoneware or white porcelain — then add character with one textured layer, like a woven placemat or a hand-painted salad plate. Mixed sets read warmer than perfectly matched ones, which is why most of these pieces are sold individually or in small sets rather than twelve-piece services.
Everyday or occasion? Both. Ceramic plates and bowls are made for daily use. Olive wood boards and glass cake stands move from a Tuesday cheese plate to a dinner party without changing character.
Care, briefly: ceramic and porcelain are generally dishwasher-friendly unless a piece has metallic trim or hand-painted detail, which should be washed by hand. Olive wood and blown glass are always hand wash. Linen runners and placemats wash cold and air dry best.
