Solar lighting, honestly: solar garden lights charge in daylight and switch on at dusk on their own — no wiring, no outlet, nothing to trench. Expect six to eight hours of glow from a full sunny day, less after an overcast one. Crackle glass scatters the light instead of pointing it, which is why it reads warm rather than security-floodlight.

Making a porch feel finished: one seat, one surface, one light source, one living thing. A stool doubles as a side table, a planter gives the eye somewhere to land, and a single glass light does more after sunset than three strings of bulbs.

Weather notes: rattan and bamboo pieces are best under cover — a porch roof or overhang — rather than in open rain. Ceramic and cement planters can crack if water freezes inside them, so empty and store them before a hard freeze.
